Day 1: Cloud Fundamentals and Essential Services
Section I: Foundations of Cloud Architecture
- Key principles of cloud architecture and non-functional requirements (availability, scalability, security, performance).
- Cloud adoption strategies and associated trade-offs: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and the shared responsibility model.
- Components of Azure architecture: Regions, Resource Groups, and Resources.
- Designing mission-critical systems and defining disaster recovery targets (RTO, RPO).
Section II: Essential Cloud Services
- Foundations of storage and data: Azure Table Storage and Azure Cosmos DB.
- Compute and container platforms: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Registry (ACR).
- Relational data and messaging: Azure SQL Database and Azure Service Bus.
- Practical application for each service: configuration, deployment, and assessment against criteria such as availability, performance, security, and cost.
- Implementing Infrastructure as Code with Bicep to ensure reproducible environments.
Day 2: Architectural Leadership and Clean Architecture
Section III: The Role of the Architect
- Defining software architecture and various architectural viewpoints.
- Responsibilities of the software architect, role definition, and ownership of decisions.
- Specifying architecture and communicating effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- A practical roadmap for becoming an effective software architect.
Section IV: Managing Dependencies in Monolithic Systems
- Principles of Clean Architecture: separating concerns, managing dependency direction, and enhancing maintainability.
- Choosing the appropriate cloud services for modernizing monolithic applications (including benefits and drawbacks).
- Hands-on lab: constructing and deploying a Clean Architecture solution in Azure using .NET.
Day 3: Domain-Driven and Distributed Architectures
Section V: DDD, CQRS, and Event Sourcing
- Fundamentals of Domain-Driven Design: establishing domain boundaries, creating a ubiquitous language, and model-driven design.
- Concepts of CQRS and Event Sourcing for managing complex, evolving business domains.
- Architectural patterns commonly used in DDD-based cloud solutions.
- Hands-on lab: applying Event Sourcing as a requirements-driven design technique (mapping requirements to events, aggregates, and event flows).
Section VI: Microservices
- Principles of microservices architecture and trade-offs in distributed systems.
- Selecting cloud services for microservices-based solutions (including benefits and drawbacks).
- Synchronous and asynchronous communication styles in microservices, featuring reliability patterns like circuit breakers and resilience strategies.
- Testability in microservices and CI/CD: implementing contract testing, defining integration testing boundaries, setting automated quality gates, and ensuring deployment confidence.
- Hands-on lab: constructing and deploying microservices in Azure using .NET.
Requirements
- Proficiency in an advanced programming language, such as C# or Java.
- A foundational understanding of the architectural styles covered in the course.
- Basic experience working with cloud services.
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience.
