Becoming a Product Owner/Product Manager in the SAFe Enterprise

  • Lean-Agile mindset and SAFe 6.0 core values: alignment, transparency, and respect for people
  • PO vs. PM: scope, accountabilities, and decision-making boundaries across team and program levels
  • Role mapping within Value Streams, ARTs, and Lean Portfolio Management
  • Customer-centric discovery and continuous value delivery principles
  • Lab 1: Accountability mapping workshop and role alignment exercise using real organizational structures

Preparing for PI Planning

  • Business context and vision development: problem spaces, outcomes, and hypothesis-driven planning
  • Program backlog architecture: Epics → Features → User Stories and acceptance criteria
  • Story mapping, capacity planning, and refinement techniques
  • Identification of cross-team dependencies, risk registers, and pre-PI synchronization
  • Lab 2: Backlog refinement simulation and creation of a complete draft PI agenda and pre-read package

Leading PI Planning

  • PI Planning structure, agenda, and team breakout mechanics
  • Plan review, confidence voting, risk mitigation, and management review processes
  • Facilitating collaborative planning, constraint resolution, and commitment tracking
  • Post-PI execution planning: milestones, checkpoints, and stakeholder communication
  • Lab 3: Full PI Planning simulation with cross-team dependency mapping, risk workshops, and confidence scoring

Executing Iterations

  • Iteration planning: story prioritization, capacity allocation, and definition of ready/done
  • Daily Scrum, iteration demos, and team retrospectives
  • Managing scope changes, impediments, and continuous stakeholder feedback loops
  • Flow metrics: velocity, throughput, lead time, and burn-up/down tracking
  • Lab 4: Iteration execution simulation with live backlog grooming, stakeholder demo, and impediment resolution

Executing the PI

  • PI execution tracking: milestone monitoring, health indicators, and delivery forecasting
  • Inspect & Adapt (I&A) workshop: solution demonstration, A3 problem-solving, and roadmap adjustment
  • Continuous Improvement mechanisms: backlog grooming cadence, governance, and value stream optimization
  • Continuous Delivery Pipeline & DevOps culture: CI/CD integration, automation, and platform readiness
  • Lab 5: I&A simulation with A3 root-cause analysis, solution demo critique, and improvement backlog creation

Becoming a Certified SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager

  • SPM-61 exam structure, question formats, domain weighting, and time management strategies
  • Key certification domains: Lean-Agile principles, ART execution, iteration/PI planning, role accountabilities, and flow metrics
  • Practice questions, exam readiness checklist, and retake policy overview
  • Certification pathway, ongoing learning resources, and SAFe community engagement
  • Capstone: Personal implementation roadmap, certification readiness assessment, and peer coaching session
  • Open Q&A, course close, and resource distribution

Requirements

This course has no prerequisites and is open to anyone interested in exploring the SAFe® framework and developing the skills to leverage it. While prior work experience in a SAFe environment and familiarity with Lean, Agile, or other relevant certifications are beneficial, they are not mandatory.
